Dig you hole, check what the soil looks like. Is is clayey, rocky? This will dictate what you need to do to set things up for success.

Check your local nurseries to find out who specialises in natives. You might even have a nursery near you dedicated to just that.
Test & trial
Some like it hot, others need some shade. Most natives will be forgiving enough to let you move them around from time to time!
